2011 - A Busy and Exciting MultiSport Year

2011 will be a busy race year for me. When I put it all on the calendar, it looks a little overwhelming, but I think I actually raced more in 2009! Last year my multisport training and racing sort of took a nosedive right after Ironman Coeur d'Alene. The screw in my left knee was seriously starting to come loose! The screw was put there in 1989 to reattach my MCL that I fully ripped off the bone during a football injury.

I ended up having to miss some of my better races due to having the screw removed and the associated recovery. I ended up missing Ironman Wisconsin, a 36 hour Adventure Race (Berryman), an Epic Mountain Bike race, and a 12 hour Mountain bike race. Oh well.

Now that the screw is gone and I'm recovered, 2011 will be a good year! Bring It!

January

  • 16 Jan, Sunday: SwampStomper 50K Ultra - I did this race last year - it was my first ultra. It rained several inches the night before, so 80% of the trail had about 4-5 inches of water. I finished though, but it hurt!  Update: FINISHED in 7:47 - This was a slow time for me, but my knee really started hurting - here's my pseudo report on my Blog: SwampStomper 50K
  • 22 Jan, Saturday: FrostBite Series Half Marathon - not sure if I'm doing this - depends on how I feel after SwampStomper! MAYBE

Primal Quest - Someday I will do this race!

Losing My Mind
Losing My Mind

Sanity?

The big question in my mind is will I be able to keep my sanity during this season. These races are in addition to holding a full time job and working on my dissertation. We'll see!

Wow! Go big or go home -- what a schedule! Good luck in your races this year. I'll be doing my first ultra this year -- the Vermont 50m trail run in September. And thanks to this hub I have my first ultra for 2011 planned -- the Swamp Stomper! What a name and what a logo, I can't pass that race up.

Hey Mike's Corner - thanks for the comment. Yes, go big or go home...get out of the comfort zone and challenge yourself! The VT 50m trail sounds cool. I have my first 50 miler ultra this year. Are you doing SwampStomper? That's great! Some friends and I have a cabin reserved - I just canceled one cabin, so you may be able to snag one...they are right on Meeman-Shelby Park!

Ah -- I forgot that it is already 2011 :) . .. . I meant it will be my first race in 2012. Those cabins sound great -- I will start looking into them for next year. Thanks for the tip, Ironracer!
